橙花油是苦橙樹的果實，苦橙樹是一種原產於中國和近東的灌木，最高可長到7公尺。棉花是一種植物纖維，包裹著「真」棉花植物（錦葵科灌木）的種子。這種纖維幾乎完全由纖維素組成，通常被加工成紗線，然後織成布料。

橙花精油是從苦橙樹的花朵中提取的，苦橙樹開著一種可愛的小白花。它的名字來自義大利內羅拉公主安妮-瑪麗·奧爾西尼，她尤其喜愛這種白花，並將其用於沐浴、衣物和宮殿裝飾中。至於棉花，是一位印度人偶然發現的，他被樹枝上柔軟的白色絨毛所吸引，此後棉花已被種植了數千年。亞歷山大大帝很快就認識到了這種植物的價值，他注意到用棉花纖維製成的衣物比他自己用亞麻和羊毛製成的衣物更輕盈、更精緻。
